Summary

A great port in it’s heyday and a similar style to the waterfront in Dieppe. The privateer, Champlain, left here to found Quebec.

Nowadays it is a more peaceful & beautiful place to be but still has agreeable links with the past. Like much of Normandy it is a popular place for Artists. The seafront has now been renovated and is a good place to lunch & watch the fishing boats being tended to.

There are many museums worth a visit. The Euge`ne Boudin museum of painting, the museum of Old Honfleur and the museum of Honfleur Port to name a few.

Other places worthy of a visit are the church of Saint Catherine, dating back to the 15^th & 16^th centuries & much of the work carried out by the shipwrights of that period. A visit to the spectacular Bridge of Normandy. Have a guided tour & also cross to Le Havre if you wish and is well worthy of inspection.

Another day trip to give you the taste, for a longer stay.

Lisieux

Lisieux is in the heart of the Normandy area and would make a good base to explore from. We have used the Hotel De La Place in the past, so if you are contemplating an extended visit, have a look while on your day trip.

As with all of this region, it reflects its long history in its buildings and museums.

Places of note and worth a visit are the Basilica of Saint Therese, the Cathedral St Pierre, the Art & History museum, which is based in one of the last timber fronted houses in Liseux, and the (Story of Life), this depicts the life and times of Saint Theresa of Liseux,

Lisieux is surrounded by countryside and farms where they produce Cider, Calvados and many famous cheeses.

Take the time & trouble to visit and you wont be disappointed.
